Black Boxes Located but Search for Answers in Indonesian Plane Crash Continues

Indonesian investigators have successfully downloaded information from the flight data recorder (FDR) of the Sriwijaya Air jet that crashed into the Java sea soon after taking off from the capital Jakarta last week.

However, the search for the Boeing 737-500’s other “black box”, the cockpit voice recorder continues.

“We are really hoping the (cockpit voice recorder) could be found to support the data we recovered from (flight data recorder),” says an investigator with the National Transportation Safety Committee.

Divers found the recorders’ casing but are still searching for its memory unit.

Sixty-two people were on board the plane. All of them perished.
