Putting the Brakes on Vehicle Investigations

The ongoing Federal shutdown invoked by President Trump has halted key functions of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This includes safety defect investigations, field crash investigations, review of consumer complaints, and vehicle recalls from auto manufacturers.

The NHTSA had 13 active investigations open that surrounded vehicle defects when the government shutdown occurred last December. They will remain suspended until the U.S. Congress and Trump administration strike a funding deal.
